Afternoon Folks,
I currently have an MY08 2007 D3 SE TDV6 which I purchased new and it has been for the most part a good vehicle, I know it well and can do a quite a bit of work on it myself. I'm biased but I still love it.
Given its age I need to give consideration to replacing it. I have a 14ft caravan, weights 2200kg loaded and I need to be able to fit some of my RC planes in the back of a vehicle to go to my RC model flying club and to events.
I want comfort and a few mod cons as well as we all do.
Only vehicle I have been looking at closely was the Ford Everest Platinum 3.OL which is basically a very similar donk to the D4 3.0L. 10 speed and looks be suitable.
Its GVM, GCM and payload though are less than the D3 and that worries me and would possibly need a GVM/GCM upgrade and levelling airbags to keep it level when the caravan is on. I have seen similar vans on these and rear end was sagging.
One advantage is there are lots of dealers including where I live.
Or . . .
Consider a 2026/27 landrover 110 D350 X-Dynamic HSE. I really do not know much about these apart from a couple of Youtube vids I have watched.
GVM / GCM and payload are all superior to the D3 and obviously the Everest. No upgrades required nor expensive "extras: apart from Anderson lead and Brake controller though I would re-purpose from the D3 anyway.
I'd be very grateful for considered opinions on the L663 with the D350 engine.
Reliability, any show stoppers, what is good or run away fast!
Down side is dealer network and how LR treats customers. Closest dealer to me is on Sunshine Coast QLD. Approx 2.5 hours away.
cheers
Peter
I've had a MY21 D350 L405 for a year, specifically with the D350 engine because it isn't a Ford engine. I've only read of 1 failure and that engine was full of muck so not surprising that it failed. The Ingenium has computer-controlled oil pressure which increases with load on the bearings, not revs, which I like providing it keeps working. The engine is smooth and economical for everyday driving but it has only towed our 2T tare van once so I'm short on experience towing the van. This vehicle replaced a MY12 4.4TDV8 L322 which towed the van well.
Switching-off stop-start every startup was a bit annoying, mostly due to the slow start-up of the displays once the gearbox was no longer in Park, but has now been set to last-user-mode using a G4 Gap tool so stays off unless switched on. However I understand that Gap haven't yet overcome OBD/module access restrictions on the MY26 L663 so don't count on being able to switch it off permanently.
A L663 with the D350 would have suited my purpose better than the L405 but I was over-ruled.
