Thread: Fraser Island 2015

Looks like lots of fun. Thanks for recording your experience and posting here. Last time I was there - 1991 in a S111 109 diesel tray ute. Pulled the top of the cab and had 'convertible' for the trip. Then put it back on for the drive back to home (Bris).
Ended up pulling two 'mitzis' out of a the same 'obstacle' lol up north of the island on a slight sandy incline. Daggy old slow noisy 109 S111 who would've thought it could do that....
Good to see the island hasn't been too chopped up by visitors (um, I kinda know that it has cause most of the tracks were burrowed some ten feet down leading away from the ferry landing point for miles when I was there over twenty years ago).
The dingos were cheeky then, but can be dangerous now. Wonder why that is..
Anyways, omg what a beautiful place.

Thanks for watching! I love to take lots of video, it can seem like a hassle at the time, but it's a lot of fun to be able to relive the trip a week or two once well back into the groove of the daily rat race. It also makes me think more and more about the next trip!

Thanks for watching! We overnighted in Noosa and left early for the last stretch to Inskip Point via Noosa North Shore & Double Island Point. We left an hour or two before low tide, so we had a perfect run all the way up to the top end of the Island. This way we got to avoid the track off the ferry that you speak of. I heard is was as rough as an Orchid Beach bogan. I take a lot of gear, especially on the roof with jerries etc., so I try to make the trip easier where possible. About half way up to the Ocean Lake camp zone (it was at Eli Ck), I kept hearing a tapping on the roof. I got out to see one of the roof rack legs had slipped off the side and the roof rack was balancing on three legs. I can't say too many good things about the Rhino Racks as it is, but I'm thankful I didn't have to trek over the rough inland track from the ferry because I probably would have been cactus.

There's a lot of dingoes up where we were camping. One afternoon one came rolling through our camp site with a huge Dart in its mouth. I went down to tell the fisherman off for feeding 'em, but they incisted it stole the fish from their bucket! They were never aggressive or anything, but their presence each night within feet of our tent was enough to make the missus uncomfortable. In the daytime though, they are cute as hell. If I saw some pus I would probably melt.

As previously discussed this is the Fraser island trip I attended with my best mate Josh and his partner Ash.
Please check out image attached of me recovering this patrol with a camper on the back! it must have been 3.5t and wasn't keen to go in the soft sand, bloke was trying to get to barge around the point at high, if I didn't tow him more then likely would of been taken by the seas. So towed him 10km to the barge onto the barge off and onto the road. Defender loved it low range diff locked 3-4 gear no worries.
Did try maxtraxx though she bogged straight back down.
Anyway in the end all was happy double cab pick up did the job!

Hey Mate,
It was on the other side of the island near coongal creek. Sand was really soft, though awesome place to chill for the day.

It's a pano and maybe a little bit misleading, the double cab ain't really in the middle of a finger of sand between either side of the shore. BUT, it's a wicked chill spot on the Western side of the Island just North of Moon point. We came from the Northern track and were hoping to cross down to Moon Point and go back inland, but unless we had a ton a 4x2, some barrels, outboard and a heap of gumption it wasn't happening. There were a few fish on the bite on the high tide but all busted off, a great afternoon
