			1963 Ser 2a 88" Ex Military.. $$?

Hello all. First time in this section for me! Just bought the second Land Rover! An engine and transless 1963 Ser 2a ex military shorty for the wife! Now, hear me out with this bit... We've been looking for a rotten SWB 88" Ser 1 into which I planned to fit the 200Tdi and early Defender 5 speed and 1.192 ratio transfer box, later Ser 2 or 3 chassis and axles with RR diffs and Defender/Wolf wheels and BFG 235/85 R16's of my Fender.. The wife's request was a fast fuel efficient Series 1 Tdi ragtop in metalic blue! She knows what she wants!! Plan was to graft Series 1 body onto Ser 2 military chassis.. that was untill I heard that I have 1 of only 1000 Ser 2 Military shortys.. A, Is that right, B, What do you all think, C, Does anyone have an 88 Ser 1 spare and D, What's the Ser 2 worth???? Thanks! Sitec!!

Total number of military series 2 88's is 1221. (13 known in good hands)

Total number of military series 2a 88's is 1010. (22 known in good hands)
 (According to REMLR records)

Definitely special in my books. But then, maybe I'm just biased.

PS - do you know the chassis / ARN number?

Interesting you put this here and not the REMLR or the series sections.

There are plenty of series 1, 2, 2a's and 3's out there that you can convert that are not military...there is a special love of military vehicles, rare, some say no, though some of us who know that they are worth persevering for our heritage

 Mrs hh

PS I have 1 of only 40 or so '60 series 2's well worth preserving in original condition IMHO

I would be inclined to restore the S2A to army spec. or sell it to a collector.

Could your wife hack the thought of owning a Defender 90? it would save you oodles of time and probably money as well.

If she really wants a S1 I would get her one of them.

Check out the Series One Club, UK forum; several people have upgraded theirs to Tdi etc.

I notice your wish-list doesn't have disc brakes. Changing to S2 or 3 axles doesn't have much advantage, except for the fully floating rear half-shafts,

 Cheers Charlie

Hello again. Yeah, she's set on a Series 1'ish style vehicle. She loves my 130 but wants simple, 'different' and 'old'. Next question I guess.. Who would like a Ser 2 88" Ex Military?? The Chasis No is 24303607A if that tells anyone anything.. Pic enclosed I think! They don't make it simple!

I'd hazard a guess that the bonnet has been changed too.

Could be due to rust in the bonnet frame. Guards had a tendency to tear in the corners of the cutouts. If the tool holders were removed, new guards may have been fitted to remove the holes.

 ............or she was pranged.

So if you have the original wings in the back of it, they have the tool brackets still on?? and tools would be a nice bonus

If so you have a nice collectible/restoring vehicle

If you look at my sig it is not that far off 'bessie'
