Guys,
The fuel Gauge does not work, as it has a dipstick on each Tank I thought maybe they never fitted senders on the Tanks or bothered with any wiring but it has the flick over sender switch on the dash for either tank so I am guessing there is an elec prob, beford I go investigating do you have a working fuel gauge for both tanks or is it just the dipsticks ?
Secondly the front wings have small cracks at the rear corner of the cutout part, it has been ally wekded before but has cracked again, it seems to be due to the flex but I noticed the wings vibate to the point of making a noise when the engine is running, which I can stop by gripping with my hand, is there maybe support brackets missing or has anyone got a solution for this ?
Cheers
Andy
The switch on the dash just selects which fuel tank (sender) the gauge actually reads. It does not select which tank your fuel is drawn from, that is done mechanically via a C/O switch located just under your left knee (providing you are sitting in the workshop :D).
The cracks in the guards is a standard issue and is usually repaired by riveting a small alloy patch panel inside the guard. I will try and find a pic of 1 of mine and post it up.

thanks Paul, yes it is just the switch for the gauge, will have to check the wiring from the gauge thru to the tanks
that was the other option as need to stop it as the cracks are getting longer, interested in seeing your pic ! thanks
The only pic I can find (at short notice) is of an old 64 GS wreck I have. I have drawn a red outline of the parch shape and you can see the rivots holding it on. If no-one else posts up a pic, I will take a fresh photo of my 71 workshop guard for you.
Firey (on this forum) also has a 71 workshop and he found (the missing) front TAC plate being used to repair one of his guards.
Thanks Paul, thats great, will sort them out, the had been ally welded previously and I coldweld them both sides but today lent on the wings whilst doing some bits and the cracks were back !
You will need a few rivets to repair that one in the pic !
Andy,
couple of snaps, one outside RHS guard and one inside LHS showing patch. If you need anything more specific, give me a yell

Few Pictures of the effort from the workshop staff...

Thanks Paul, neat job and in keeping with the Landy !
Juddy, this is how mine look now, i think first time they were welded and ground smooth, looks neat but crack back straightaway, 2nd repair left weld runs for strength but still cracked through the weld, so will grind flush and pop rivet strengtheners on inside like Paul's, interestingly the passenger wing hardly flexes but there is movement in the drivers one yet they there is no bracket missing or anything else to cause this !
Thanks for the pics guys !
Hi Guys,
On the dash the cold start amber light which is housed within the speedo is illuminated, as it is an ex Army petrol did they use this light for another purpose or is it just a fault I need to sort ?
Cheers
