    Series 3 - LWB - Ex-Army - 1981

Just recently purchased an ex-army series 3 LWB, for me and my dad to restore.
That's why the post below me (Shaunmax) is pretty similar, I'll try to post some pics soon!
It's currently at our local garage so they can see what is wrong with it, (currently not running... For now)so far, they've had to order in some new parts and we will hopefully get it by the weekend or possibly after that!!

I have been bugging my dad for the last 2 years and wanted one since I can't remember, I always dreamt of having a defender but my dad has convinced me too get a series 3, I've decided that as soon as we are done with this I'm getting a stage 1 (the best of both worlds).
Anyway, will post some pics and more info soon but for now I'm out

    Ben

    G'day Swaggy

I would like to suggest that you fit a relay to the headlights to take the power drain from your headlight switch,I would suggest fitting a "New Era"double fused relay (Australian made) they are available at most Repco stores, they will improve your lights quite well, and from memory your S3 light wire joiners are similar to that on army 2a behind the grille, just take the power feed from the battery in 5/6mm wire and the light feed from the those headlamp wires behind the grille, wiring code is Blue & Red tracer is Low beam,Blue & White tracer is High beam.

Also get a good mechanic to check the Exhaust valve/tappett clearances particularly on the rear cylinders (5&6) as they have a habit of burning exhaust valves, which shows up as a miss (miss fire) when running.

Hope that is of help to you.

    cheers

Yes but a lot have been changed for holden motors since they have been in civilian hands.

I always wanted to drive a rover 2.6, I had a series 2A factory 6 cyl with an ENV rear diff, but the rover 2.6 must have died and it was replaced with a 149 holden. was a sweet little motor that
