    Fairey overdrive

Does anyone know if the Fairey overdrive will fit onto the LT95 box in a 6x6? The Canadian overdrive says theres won't fit, and if it does where could I try to source one from, so far I can find spares for them but no units for sale
    Cheers

    I have one in my 120 with a 4bd1 and lt95.
Where were you going to fit it?
    Do you have a 6x6?
It wont fit in the 6x6 lt95 because it comes out the same hole as the 3rd axle drive.

Normal series fairey wont fit but global roamer drive make two types. one for early series and one for later defenders. Much stronger than fairey and very very quiet too. Hope this helps.

There are two Fairey O/Ds for LRs - one for the LT95 and a different one for the Series gearboxes. As 123rover posts, the one for the LT95 won't be able to be used on a 6X6.

As everyone has indicated, you cannot fit any overdrive on the 6x6 because it uses the same place as the overdrive to take the drive to the third axle.

For the same reason, you cannot swap to a different gearbox that uses the LT230 transfer case. Your only option is to fit three higher ratio diffs, but this brings its own problems. The other solution often suggested for higher ratios, of fitting larger tyres, is very limited because of the limited clearance between tyres on the second and third axles.

Just looking at the Global Roamer website, they don't make one for the LT95.

In respect to the Series LRs, they raise the gearing sufficiently to make the vehicle noticeably quieter at cruise. It should be noted that they should only be used advisedly and only in 3rd and 4th gear high range in a Series LR if you want them to last.

In high range 4th in a 109" Series with 7.50 16 tyres the final gearing is changed from 16.5 mph per 1000 rpm to 21.1 mph per 1000 rpm.

I've never had one for the LT95. I know that people do use them with the 4BD1 but there are others who say they are best only be used with the 3.5 V8.

Fairey ODs for LT95s would be like hens teeth I think.

Thankyou 87county, for limited highway driving and for what I imagine the unit would cost, it would be nice, but probably not justified for my SIII. Cheers.
