I used to use brass nuts on my RRC's exhaust pipe flanges but they never stayed tight, with the threads eventually pulling out.

Novice towing question

You seem to have the hitch receiver and 12pin socket fitted. (a 7 pin flat trailer plug fits directly to the 12pin vehicle mounted socket no prob).
