    LPG injection to a 1994 RR classic 3.9

    I would like to convert my 1994 soft-dash classic to LPG injection to make it more viable as a daily driver (I have a 65km each-way commute). I rang a few places who do LPG conversions to LR vehicles, and have been told that LPG injection is not feasible on the 3.9 as the fuel injection system does not have MAP, O2 sensors etc.
    Is there a gas injection system out there that has it's own electronics, i.e. MAP, O2 sensors etc rather than having to piggy-back onto existing electronics on the vehicle? I do not want to put an old style gas conversion on this vehicle.

    Yes. The KME system has been installed on 3.9 RR. I have the same one on my P38A which doesn't have O2 sensors.

    See KME - Manufacturer of CNG and LPG (GPL) electronic systems. I think ELKO distribute it. ELKO are in Dandenong and Lilydale.

    Mine was done by Diesel Gas Technologies in Sydney and I've seen several 3.9 RRCs with this system in their workshop.

    I had a 93 witha 3.9 and later a 4.6 motor and fitted simple gas system with a aftermarket O2 sensor.
    I had 2 tanks in place of fuel tank and also on another car had 3 tanks fitted in back of car. Much of a muchness.
    Never had a problem and got consistently 250-300km/ 58L gas.

    Give Bee utey a pm, he did all my conversions(4 of them) and is resident guru.

    You can fit gas injection to a 94 RRC. You don't need O2 sensors but one helps for diagnosis. You also don't need a MAP sensor. The gas system has its own. However the gas will not self-tune without an O2 sensor enabled to the car ECU. So it will probably wander off tune every so often and need tuning via laptop and adaptor.

    However a well sorted mixer system will cost you $1500 less, offer self tuning when connected to an O2 sensor and give 98% the same reliability and 90% of the peak power. Mainly its less parts to go wrong and ease of servicing that wins a mixer system for me on a RRC.

    This is my opinion and you can take it or leave it.I had my LPG injection installed at Deacon Automotive and i wouldnt go back there again.Still not running right and i cant even use it.Ring around and you will find good installers.And when running right are alot cheaper to run then petrol thats for sure. Good luck with it.
