    Temp to fill up

    Hi guys, is there an opinion(based on facts) out there as to the best time or temp to fill up'sometimes I fill up and get more in the tank than normal, which cost more but does not seem to get me further....so either the pump are not regulated or As a gas/liquid it must be effected by temp".......so is it best to fill up first thing in the morning? Or?

    What you buy in litres (I am led to believe) is temperature compensated so you pay for the mass of the fuel. The tank AFL valve however shuts off at near 80% liquid level regardless, so on a frosty morning you would get more mass of gas into your 80% and travel further on it. The 20% expansion space will allow the cold gas to safely expand inside the tank without venting, even if it stands in the sun all day shortly after filling.

    Please note though the AFL is not 100% accurate and is affected by angle, so some days you get a different amount depending on the ground slopes at different pumps.

    Thanks bee utey, I was hoping you'd answer the question. One more question......my tanks are 2x 35lt and generally fill up to 60lt.....but sometimes it will go all the way to 70lt and even once to 80 lt......is that a dodgy pump?

    Twin tanks are a problem in that the AFL valves aren't always getting enough flow rate to reliably shut off at the correct levels. AMR released an improved dual filler valve for RRC,D1 and D2 conversions to increase the flow rate and make dual tank AFL action more reliable. And for the last few years the flexible filler line has been upgraded to 10mm ID instead of 8mm and this helps too.

    So peripherally its a servo pump problem, some just can't do twin tanks under the older standards. High temperature in the gas tanks can slow down filling flow rates too, it's not a simple answer.
