On a couple of gas cars years ago I have had the main shut-off solenoid under the bonnet be too weak to open against the increased pressure from a hot gas supply. I would have to open the bonnet and whack the valve while turning the ignition on.
It depends on the brand of valve, since becoming a gas fitter I prefer using MED or AMR valves as they don't tend to fail in the heat. Some valves will accept higher wattage coils (12W instead of 8W) which helps a lot to open them. Ask a gas fitter locally to see what is available for your system.
