85 Carbie RRC. Gas on a budget.

Hi all you LPG gurus, I'm in need of a bit of advice.

I've just bought a 1985 RRC running the twin Stromberg carbies and I'm looking to install an LPG conversion.

Talking to an installer today and he told me he's had problems of valve seat erosion on our engines. Is this true and is there an easy fix if it is?

Secondly, I've found a second hand kit which has been pulled off another 3.5 carbie and is supposed to be in full working order.
I currently can't afford to have a completely new installation done (even with the $1000 rebate) and want to know if it's worth going down this route.

Thirdly, can anyone recommend an installer in Western Sydney who would install and test it for me (I live in Katoomba - Blue Mountains and work in Penrith).

    Thanks in advance.

Valve seat recession is almost unheard of on a LR V8 on gas. I've never seen it myself. I've seen them do hundreds of thousands of km on gas without trouble.

Second hand stuff is cool, I do it all the time. You will need to prove you have purchased the second hand kit (a receipt) to claim the rebate, as well as the installation labour (and any applicable certificates).

Thanks Bee Utey. This is what I was hoping to hear.
Do you happen to know of anyone in my area you could recommend to do the job?
Also, would you be able to give me a rough guestimate of what it would cost me (the tank has 7 years of test remaining on it)?

IT only happens if its set up wrong and runs too lean with too much advance.

but then, that'd do it to any engine.

That I'm afraid you will have to research yourself. I don't know the gas fitters 20km away, let alone 1400km away.
