			Gas Injection for Classic

Hope you can help me... I have purchased second hand a gas injection system which at face value seems to be all there and in good nick (tanks still in service). It is a twin lpg tank under body setup with a quarter AUX Brown Davis fuel tank. My question is regarding the the AUX fuel tank which has a large red plastic screw ring around a central opening which i am assuming is where the original sender unit / range rover internal pump is meant to go. Does this sound correct or is there meant to be a seal over the opening only?

Secondly does the forum have recommendations of good LPG people in Sydney. I was going to do the grunt work of putting the tanks lines in place but leave it to the experts to set up and validate the system?

Strictly any licenced gas installer that lets you fit any LPG components (and certify the system) without his direct supervision is breaking the law. If your knowledge is so limited that you haven't worked out that the RRC fuel injection pump goes into the auxiliary petrol tank, I would proceed with caution.

 My suggestions:

First lift your rear load space carpet and look for the round hatch in the floor. I assume your RRC is a late model with the plastic petrol tank, if not your kit will not fit without serious modification. Have a look at the pump assembly and work out how it needs to move to fit the auxiliary tank. The float arm may need shortening to make the gauge accurate. The wire harness may need a bit of careful stretching to reach the new position. The steel fuel pipes will have to be bent and kept clear of the LPG tanks to prevent them rubbing through.

Then when you have found a helpful gas fitter, remove your petrol tank and install the auxiliary one with your pump assembly. This is the best time to fit a new pump at the same time, a VN Commodore type pump is easy to obtain and fit at this stage. Once you have got the petrol system installed and working you can move on.

If you test fit the LPG tanks to see that the towbar and cradle will all fit, do this with empty tanks. Then remove the tanks and let the LPG fitter do the final fit. Legally a LPG fitter is supposed to replace all flexible hoses and copper lines during a second hand system refit. Your chosen fitter may decide your old hoses look new enough for him to proceed. Let him decide.

Running the plumbing to the engine bay has as many rules and regulations as any other aspect of LPG fitting. I suggest you are very careful about doing work of this nature as your roadworthy/insurance will be void if your work is found out.

Thank you and you are right, i think this would best be left to the professional, i have secured all the parts. I will just ensure that everything is reconditioned and then hand off to an installer as the last thing i need is to be stranded by the side of the road will go back to fixing / fiddling the less critical pars on the old girl will go back to fixing / fiddling the less critical pars on the old girl

 Cheers

Hi, I have had a gas system installed in a 1990 RRC by Graeme Cooper Automotive and found them to do an excellent job. I now have a 1995 Classic and will have GCA install a gas system in her. There are a few companies that do gas but I have found GCA, being Land Rover specialists, have a pretty good handle on RRC requirements. When there have a look at the service managers P38 ute....on gas, brilliant. Hope this helps. Phil
