No LPG or Petrol on start

Hi all, wondering if anyone can give me any ideas,

Sometimes when starting my 96 v8 disco the lights on my LPG tank guage, which also has a "P" light which illuminates at start up and when running on petrol go out out and there is no fuel supply at all and the engine just cranks over. A couple of times if I turn the ignition off and try again it is ok and starts/runs fine, other times I have removed the panel the guage is mounted on to check all the wire connections but all are tight and connected, replace the panel then it will start no worries, a couple of days later the some issue happens again

Any ideas what could be causing it????????????

 Cheers Matt

I've met quite a few of those over the years where the pins either break their solder joints on the circuit board or the sockets on the wiring harness come loose with age. Sometimes you'll find the white nylon holder is discoloured with heat around one or two pins. Once they start to go the best thing to do is to chomp off the cable connector and individually solder the wires to the switch board.

A temporary fix is to determine which wire is live with the ignition and which goes live on petrol. Connect a simple toggle switch between these wires and you have emergency petrol operation. The gas side and petrol assisted start is slightly more complicated, you'd need to get the correct electronics to replace your switching device.
