    won't idle

ok so the gas system in the rangie has been fine since i have had it until today. its a duel fuel system but i have only run it on gas as the fuel is 18months old and i think it should be drained (another problem for later discussion).

so it used to start fine and sit at a nice idle but for some reason today it would not start at first like it had no fuel. i played with some fuses and it started but wouldn't hold idle as it would stall/starve. as im new to log i don't know where to start? if you keep your foot on the pedal it runs and revs fine.

its a 3.9 efi rangie classic

Likely as not here will be an air/vacuum hose fallen off somewhere around the engine. Carefully inspect all the hoses connecting to the inlet manifold, look for cracks underneath the bigger ones that connect around the air intake side of the manifold.

So I checked all hoses and they seem fine. The only suspect one is a smaller one like 10mm hose that runs back to a black ball. When rubbed it leaves black soot over your hand.

OK its an Impco system then, model L is the type of converter. Your mixer is probably an Impco model 200 and the idle mixture screw is the one with the spring as you mentioned. Screw it inwards to richen the mixture, out to lean it off. If that is uncuccessful undo the cover plate (5 screws) and inspect the diaphragm of the mixer for damage. A backfire can easily tear the diaphragm or buckle the cover plate. Repair or replace as necessary.
