Thread: LPG Question

possibly something to do with the coolant .

Next time it does it lift the bonnet and carefully feel the converter .

If it`s cold or has frost on it the cause is most likely coolant flow ETC .

In the mean time when it`s running ok , whether on gas or petrol carefully feel the converter when at running temp and it will be as hot as the coolant in the radiator .

This will give you a gauge as to what is right and also help eliminate the coolant as a cause .

There is no need to actually touch the converter when it is hot the radiated heat will be obvious .

Does sound like converter freezer or possibly wax deposits from the gas are gunking up the springs in the converter.

I'll check freezing of converter as a source of the problem.

Had radiator serviced as it was leaking
The radiator guy I use says it was 70% blocked and i reinstalled it on Wednesday.

Did refill it as per Pedro the Swift suggestion in the "Good Oil" but understand Rover's are notorious for air locks.... though I did follow the instructions carefully.

Interested in checking out butidiene gunk as a possible source if converter is nice and hot and how you remove it..

Also I've had someone at work say he removed his gas conversion from his vehicle
As every year or so you'd hear of a person killed when gas leaked and caused someone to be incinerated

What's everyone's veiws ......are the safe and has anyone had or heard of bad experiences.

Of course they are safe,,
it would need to be a very large accident for the LPG to become involved,, and by then you wouldnt know about it anyway.

oh and the stuff in The Good Oil is not mine,,
I'm just the old custodian, waiting for the next runner to take up the baton.

Do yourself a favour and take it to a LPG installer for a health check. LPG is perfectly safe when well maintained. If you don't have a single clue as to what's happening with the system it may pay you to find some who does have a clue. It is actually illegal for a home handyman to work on his own LPG system, because beginners tend to make stupid mistakes. Please don't become one of the emergency services customers because you've attempted repairs without a good idea of what you're doing. And a few good pictures of said LPG conversion may help with some targeted help from the forum. There are numerous different brands of LPG system available, you could have any one of 20 different brands on your vehicle.

Understand that there are some things you shouldn't touch and I have no intentions
starting now.

I'll take a few photos and post it for those more knowledgeable and identify system I have.

There's a few things I can do in the meantime such as replace spark plugs .... I'll see what she's currently running.

I'll look at booking in auto gas for a service ...... does anyone in Perth have any recommendations for LPG servicer.
