    One for bee utey

    The old spare van,Mitsy on LPG used to on occasions be hard to start.Eventually it didn't start at all.
    It has an IMPCO vapour system.Starts on petrol and automatically switches to fuel.

    There is no fuel,to get it to go,I pour some fuel into the carby,and once it starts it goes no worries,even stops and starts fine.Also runs on LPG or Petrol fine as well.Leave it overnight,never goes the next day.

    Battery is fine,turns over no worries.

    I don't think the fuel pump is running.
    Where is it powered from,is it powered from the gas computer?
    Don't seem to be any relays that I can see?

    Any help would be appreciated.I Will have time tomorrow to have more of a look.pointers where to look would be great.

    Carby? I suppose you mean the throttle body of an EFI system? Carby systems never start on petrol then automatically change over. If it's EFI then the fuel pump should run continuously to keep the injectors cool. It's probably just a tired pump in the tank that requires a bit of a wallop to get it going. No idea where Mitsi hide the EFI pump relay but it's probably under the dash. Listen for a relay that clicks on when cranking and drops out a second or so after cranking stops. I've never cut off a fuel pump but it is possible that your gas system derives its power from the fuel pump wire. It's what I used to do to the EFI Magnas. If your gas gauge comes on with cranking then it's likely it's wired that way.

    Assuming the Impco system uses an inline model 100 mixer there is a spring loaded mixture screw on the side. This is an air bypass screw and screwing it in a turn or so will richen up the idle mixture. That may assist cold starting.

    The last thing to note is that your spark plugs may not be optimal for gas, reducing the plug gap to 0.7mm may help starting when cold. Make sure all the plug/dissy boots are tight and clean. Damp cold air will short out the plugs easy as under LPG cold starting.

    You were correct,tired fuel pump,stale fuel didn't help

    Throttle body,no carby.

    A little bit off topic

    Especially on gas you need a better spark. I met a young couple on The Great Ocean Road years ago, they had a Toyota van. They had just spent all their fruit picking money putting in a S/H engine to overcome a poor running situation and still had the problem.

    When checking distributor caps/leads connections (and this goes for ANY petrol or gas powered vehicle) check INSIDE THE DIZZY CAP. You will probably find a build up of scale on each point which causes resistance for the spark.

    I cleaned off the scale for the couple and the van ran very well, probably didn't need to spend all their money on another motor.
