I dont know the type of system you have Danny but possibly a problem in the change over switch ?
Was coming out of Dalesford on the Dalesford Ballan rd and the gas died. Plenty on the gauge. Switched to petrol and nothing as well. Rolled of to the side of the road. Turned the ignition completely of and back on and the petrol worked and I was able to start the car. Soon as I switch to gas there is nothing either gas or petrol. Have to turn the ignition right of then make sure it is on petrol and it will start on petrol. Have made sure there is no wires that I can see are lose or of.

Might be a easy place to start before I take it some where to fixed.

Could be one of the relays, there are probably a bunch of relays under the dash, they control the injector cut outs. Some times relays stick or let go .
If you got some spare relays it wouldn't hurt to swap them over and see if the problem goes.
I doubt you have a computer controlled system, the old vapor systems used a pretty simple bunch of relays.

Danny, I heard you had a bit of ignition problem at Wombat, water in Dissy from creek crossing. Could be the cause, why it stopped on Petrol and Gas also????????
Cheers, Mario
You get the pink elephant stamp. There seems to have been two issues. I swapped over the switch with one I had spare. I also found that the spare plug (for who knows what ) they had used as a power source had ran out of power. A blown fuse? Checked all under the dash and bonnet and could not find a blown fuse. The wire they had used in the plug used to only come active when the key was in the start position. Tapped into a wire that comes from the ignition switch to the fuses. It only comes on when the ignition is in the start position, not a accessory wire. So now it starts fine on gas and petrol.I dont know the type of system you have Danny but possibly a problem in the change over switch ?
Only issue I now have is it will stop on gas when I turn the key off, but will continue to run on petrol even though there is no power to the gas / petrol switch. Yet if I unplug the power wire from the gas /petrol whilst running on petrol it stops. Or if I move the gas petrol switch to the center position it stops. Dam Lucas wiring The only way I can think of is yet another relay to maybe kill the power totally when the key is of to prevent a another source back feeding power from some where. Not a to big a issues as I run on gas 90% of the time any way.

Danny I don't think its the damn lucas wiring, it must be that you have now fed constant power that's why you can't turn off the petrol running and it cuts the circuit to the switch when in the 1/2 way position.
as for fuses some of installers have the fuse near the battery.
Well ok then, lets see.
Vehicle type: Gee it might just be a land rover who would have guessed that on a forum like this.
Model: Discovery 1
Year: 1997
Petrol system: EFI
Gas system: Still working on that.
Control system : Switch and relays for selection of gas or petrol
Switch: One I had. Old toggle type. Works a treat.
Owner type. Grumpy old fart with a average sarcastic sense of humor.
I have been doing some delving into the reason why it wont stop on petrol. I have found that one of the accessory wires from the ignition switch has no power. This wire has been used to supply power to a unit that indicates weather it is on gas or petrol and is fitted to the drop down under dash cover. Going by the wiring diagram this accessory wire seems to be a extra wire as it powers nothing. There is a second accessory wire that is used for all accessory's. So I might have to get a new ignition start switch ( the bit at the back of the key barrel ) or tap into the second accessory wire and see if that is the issue.
