    LPG 94 RR problems

Have fitted LPG to the 94 RR but am having problems (or SWMBO is) with chronic backfiring that so far has blown the air cleaner box apart.
I have fitted new gas suited leads and fitted new plugs anyone got any further suggestions?

I had the same problem on an EL Ford. When the leads were changed I think that solved the problem :? Or maybe he adjusted the timing too

Let us know how you go.

Sounds like a timing/ ignition component problem, check all - cap, rotor button, pickup in dizzy, coil, amplifier, leads you have replaced so check them last. Also could be incorrect mixture, has your consumption changed recently ?

    bang bang

if its happening when you start in the morning then are you pumping the gas pedal as you start. If you are then try starting it with your foot of the pedal . this happens a lot with the eb fords. If not then get the timing checked.

Also majke sure that your injector o rings on the inlet manifold are not letting air in and that the injectors arn't leaking petrol into the manifild whilst your on LPG, as mine did recently causing the odd backfire as it was burning 2 fuels at the same time.
Advance your timing a few degrees on LPG as it will cope with it .
My disco has factory timing @2 deg BTDC , I run my lpg @8 Deg BTDC.
Some people run theirs up to 16 degs on LPG

Gee Richard Mine has just done this also but I found corrosion on my leads into the dist cap and one of my leads was not pushed onto the spark plug properly. I have replaced leads /plugs and cap and have repaired/adjusted my airflow meter (flapper) and had the co checked at discovery autos and it is all good.
It was running lean on pet before this happend so I have cured that problem as well.
Do u have an antibackfire valve of some sort?
I have read in many places that you leave the 2 clamps on the hose from the airflow meter to the plenhm loosish so that if u do have a backfire the hose blows off and hopefully save you from damagng the airflow meter.
    It worked for me.
    hope it gets fixed soon

    Hi Brad,
Fortunately this is not the flapper type otherwiseI would have blown it apart.

Will replace the dissy cap and rotor on the weekend and maybe the coil.
I think that ultimately I will get a Haltec put on, when I put the Wolf on the 86 it cured it'.

Sorry to bring this up - But I have an 89 RR and I am thinking of putting gas on it as well for duel fuel.

So I take it as long as the converion is done correctly they are fine on Gas?

Also - where have you guys put the gas bottle? I was thinking if I put it under I'd lose too much ground clearnce
