    Dual timing power amp module

    Just doing some research and have found a "Dual timing A & R power amp" module for Land Rover V8's running dual fuel. It is manufactured by RPI Engineering and is supposed to retard the timing by around 8 degrees when running on petrol so that you can dial in more advance when running on LPG. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these units, or anything similar, and whether they make much difference when running on LPG.

    Dual timing power amp module

    I do have one of these amps. Works fine but have had to dry it out twice due to condensation from high humidity. I emailed RPI and they said I could seal it up completely. Have not sealed it yet but have put silica gell packets inside box to see if it helps. Changeover is very smooth when it changes from the lpg setting to the petrol setting and vice versa. .

    I have yet had anyone who couldn't run 10 degrees BTDC (LPG) timing on a standard compression engine, on either gas or petrol, without problems. If you run higher compression you can always run premium grade petrol instead, still cheaper than a dual timing module unless you want to run thousands of km on petrol.

    I currently run 10 degrees advance, but this is still a compromise. Ultimately running a piggy back chip will get me better results but the price of these are still $1300 odd dollars dearer than the power amp. Also I would have to take the vehicle back to Perth (atleast 5000 km return trip) to get it fitted, and I don't plan on driving back there anytime in the near future. Also I need the range of both petrol and LPG combined up here in the Kimberley to be able to access some of the places I would like to visit. It is often several hundred k's between fuel stops up here, and a lot of time off road I am still towing a van which further decreases mileage. These are some of the reasons I am looking to squeeze a few more ponies and k's out of the old girl. Up here when you're not running a diesel, every little bit counts.

    Thanks for the info. Has it seemed to have helped at all with the running of the vehicle? Is the power/mileage more noticeable or does it just run a bit better?

    I have just had my power amp removed as the blokes at British off road claimed it was not working correctly. Said it was the 2nd one that they had had that become dodgy. I may send it back to UK to see what they say.
