    Newbie to 4wd

I've now been in Sydney for 3 years and am looking at getting a Disco 3, as soon as the house in the uk has sold.
I have never been more off road than driving on a beach or down a gravel track, but really want to go for it when I get the Landy
So the question is where around south Sydney can I go to get a little more experience and learn some techniques without getting myself in trouble...

    Cheers
    Daryl

Get the Book "4wd treks out of Sydney", its a good book, lots of simple tracks to ease you in..

    Hi Bluepippa.

When I first started 4WDing I got some training with a 4WD trainer - 2 days. Well worth it if you want to get adventurous. Teaches you not only what not to do but more importantly what you can do and how to do it properly. There are a number of trainers around as well as 4WD clubs that usually have training days. The trainers and clubs run tag along trips so you can go in a group which is good if you're a bit unsure.

    Hi Daryl,
You could always join the Land Rover Owners Club in Sydney. They meet once a month in Five Dock from memory & often run driver training programs (among other things). It's a great way to meet fellow LR owners as well as get to know your 4wd's capabilities.

    Hi Daryl,
Offender90 is correct, the LROC(S) runs basic training weekends and recovery training weekends not too far from Sydney, I did the basic driver training, it covered every terrain type I have come across apart from deep boggy mud!
Plenty of active members have D3s or D4s so you would have plenty of actual experience to draw from too.

Hope to see you on a trip when you get your Disco,
