Yea I herd this too and saw the sign. I was going to bring my muts along but thought it was a NP , next it will be gated and shut down

On Sunday we passed a sign that said something like Marrangaroo NP. Don't quote me on the exact name.
I knew NPWS bought the property 4 or 5 years ago, but it seems its been declared or proclaimed or whatever the bureaucratic process is.
Bit of Background: Its an old sheep property, & when I heard the former owner's name a couple of years ago I rang him. We met about 30 years ago.
He bought it in 1974 or thereabouts, but eventually got sick of the theft and vandalism. Evey time he installed a rain tank, it was pinched. He repeated back to me the NPWS line about those nasty 4WDers who spread weeds in the tyre treads. And NPSW had been trying to buy it for some time.
Anyway, its either 600 plus acres or 600 plus hectares, I can't remember. The property takes in the old paddocks, Mt Walker itself, plus some of the Coxs River. The dam used to back up into the property.
So there it is. No more dogs on trips to Mt Walker!

Just did the big google and spent about 30 mins looking in to it. Not much info about but "Marrangaroo National Park
Park area: 1,670 hectares
Year the park was created: 2007" was quoted from NPWS site. No more info was available so I suspect your right. You can find out about te park by contacting npws at Blackheath. I'll try make a trip there tomorrow but I don't think I'll have the time.

Checked with Blackheath National Parks office yesterday. Ranger who looks after Marrangaroo National park is Dave Noble who is part time and difficult to get hold of. I found out from another office that there is a preliminary draft plan of management and a map . I was told these were currently confidential and could not be supplied. I wiil persue via 4WD Association contacts.
I suspect Mt Walker is not in the park but all access to Mt Walker is through the park other than the track down to the Western HWY which runs through private property.
Interesting. Mt Walker was definitely part of Dr Sugarman's parcel that he sold to NPWS. I wonder if the park boundaries are different - park & crown land?
And I have an idea that in Bob Carr's time, weren't NPWS & State Forests merged? If so there's an awful lot of land up there under the control of NPWS.

There's only one way in now, all access is closed via a locked gate apart from coming in via the river.
I've heard it will close soon
Alot of the tracks on the way from the powerlines have been blocked off and there will be more to come.
The section near Mog Hill has been NP for a while, i think it starts at the top of the hill, left side not the river side.

Wasn't there a successful legal challenge to the "thing-a-me-bob" Swamp track off the Putty Road against the NP&WS on the grounds that the track which passed through a portion of national park was a thoroughfare to other public land. The argument against Mt Walker roads closures would be that the only other access to the public land of Mt Walker is via private land.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Cheers Baz.
