    Help with gearbox issue!!

    Hi group,

Glad to see there's a place for military landie owners to find out about these beasts. Yesterday I got into my 1990 4 speed defender and when I put it in reverse the gear stick snapped off? Where's the best place to get whatever parts are needed in Sydney and is it something simple? I'm decent at mechanical stuff and have the basic tools etc. What part do I need to ask for? Is the gearbox isuzu like the motor?

    Thanks!

G'Day Dario. Welcome to AULRO and Perentie Landrovers.
KLR automotive know these vehicles well:

    KLR Automotive
Motor Replacement Parts - Penrith, NSW
Address: 5/62 Argyle Street, South Windsor NSW
    Phone: 0412 180 474

The Gearbox is a Landrover part, code LT95A (the 'A' is important, it is a modified and upgraded version of a Range Rover box).
It is not unheard of for the gearstick to break off. It it not common though. Probably had a hard life and suffering from metla fatigue.

    Cheers, BDave.

Remove it and weld it.....that's what we used to do when they broke in the field

Somebody asked the same question only a week or so ago.

Thanks heaps guys. Silverdale landie parts sorted the replacement straight away.
Understandably but frustrating is how little the land rover spare parts departments that I called know about these ex army units.

Surprised no one said this, but the trick is to talk about it like it's an Isuzu County.
