OK thanks everyone. You've been helpful and supportive.........! I agree Phil. I do (or did) know a bit about cars; I did have enough sense to look underneath, one was quite dinged on the crossmember but had a new prop shaft, the other was quite clean underneath. So I kind of know that you look at them differently to commodores or minis. I also agree that the service record is important but it seems that this would limit the number of car to consider as disappointingly not many had them. I'm going to do more research and plan on trying the next auctions which look like being the surveillance versions, apparently they're the best kitted out ones anyway....
I nearly forgot to mention that they did allow the starting of engines, but obviously no test drives! (It did start btw....)
