An ex-army vehicle has been destroyed after it caught fire with 10 rounds of ammunition inside.

Cooked .357 Magnum bullets explode in vehicle blaze

Firefighters were called to the burning Land Rover Perentie on Forrest Highway in West Pinjarra about 5.30pm this evening.

It is understood the vehicle's owner told the attending firefighters that there were 10 rounds of .357 Magnum ammunition inside the vehicle.
The ammunition ?cooked off?, or exploded because of the extreme heat caused by the fire.

Roadblocks were in place while authorities contained the fire, which has completely destroyed the vehicle.

How the fire started is yet to be determined.
Police are tonight investigating whether the driver was licensed to be in
possession of the ammunition.
