Main Roads Queensland regarding Ex ADF Vehicles

    Hello Fellow Perentie Owners

I found this while researching what tyres I should fit to my Perentie 6x6 to replace the Olympic Steeltreks.

    https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/-/media/S...L301.pdf?la=en

Although it did not help me, it does cause me some concern and wonder if others have had any problems with this. I registered mine pre 2016 and had no trouble, although according to this document it does not comply...
Security : I have replaced the door handles but not the ignition switch yet.
Lighting : My Stealth system is still operative. Apart from removing the Knob it would require some wiring modifications to rectify this.
Stability and Performance : Apparently some vehicles are raised an average 100mm to increase break over angle. I am not sure if this applies to the 6x6?

Can a vehicle that has been registered pre 2016 be deemed defective?

Any advice would be gratefully received!

    Guy MacDonald

PS Has anyone registered a No 5 Trailer in Qld? (I have one but not yet used it on the road)

    G'day Guy.
This woeful piece of BS has been popping up for a while now on various state transport sites. Copy and pasted with their state logos and all álternative truths'and spelling mistakes intact.
    There is always the possibility of retrospective legislation, but the facts are these;
Your 6x6 is purpose built as it is, not modified from a COTS product.
You registered it prior to the release date of this dross document. Won't stop a copper with an attitude from defecting you and sending you for inspoection. No change there, been going on for years.
Ths crap about +100mm suspension lift is just that. The 4x4 are +50 due to the 1tn suspension fitted. Still within the pre-approved limits that are current.

    Short version;
This is an ass covering exercise brought on by a 'concerned individual' who was "just trying to find the facts about registerring a 'military modified'ex-army Perentie". This ****wit saw fit to write to every state and Federal transport department and the usual collection of bleeding hearts and state his case, er.. ask pointed questions about, the 'safety' of these vehicles.
The only potential issue you might have is around the bonnet mounted tools and recovery points (front/ rear protrusions).
I am working on solutions for both these issues to comply without firing up the gas axe.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers, BDave.

    Thanks Barefoot Dave

Thanks Dave for taking the time to reply.

I will take on board your comment about the bonnet tools and remove them (Don't want to attract needless attention like the 'concerned individual' has done).

Also I bet he went round in ever diminishing circles and in the end did not buy one!! (Tyre Kikker/Dreamer!!)

    Thanks again

With the light switch, the concern is the brake light may be isolated. This can be rectified with a couple of bridging conductors on that switch.
I'll post up a diagram is this thread later.

The ignition steering lock is also another one easily rectified.

    The rest is a non-issue.

I have a "Club" steering lock on mine. No issues thus far.

Any vehicle can be deemed defective and, as that particular policeman in Windsor has shown, even when they are not.
It is interesting, though, I have never seen a Perentie with tail/brake lights not functioning but every second Commodore or Falcon I see has at least one tail light not working and every second farmers ute I see has at least one tail light working.
Farmers trailers never have working tail lights.

    Thanks Mick

I have replaced the door handles but not yet replaced the ignition switch (Was well and truly over it by the time the door handles were done!!)

I bought a Lucas Ignition Switch 35288 128sa 43/10 and a RTC3022 Barrel but not yet looked to see if a swap is possible. I have read a post where someone has worked out a wiring/terminal substitution and hope this applies to my switch.
Is it enough to have an ignition switch or do they want a mechanical lock built in as well? The Club Lock is an excellent idea and will invest in one. (having said that, I have not seen one in the shops in ages!!)

Do you think the brake light fix will satisfy the authorities? Maybe the Stealth Switch needs to be completely disabled?

    Thanks again for your help
