That something that burst, that'd be your problem.
I've had to replace some of the hoses on mine. Some were perished and weeping. Have a good look around your engine bay at the rubber hoses. Replace those that look a little suspect.
HELP please... Sudden burst of coolant - sprayed everywhere!
HELP please... Sudden burst of coolant - sprayed everywhere!
Hi. So I haven't driven The Beast, 1988 FFR Perentie, for a few weeks. I had to move it for some tree loppers and noticed a puddle of green when I went back to drive it a minute later. Had to drive it anyway but on the way home 15 minutes later, something burst and green coolant sprayed out everywhere. i pulled into a servo and it just poured out in a spray until it seems none was left.
Matt at KLR (I bought it from him in May) says it could be a heater hose. What else? Any experiences here?

The coolant hoses on a Perentie are the upper and lower radiator hoses, and a smaller "V" shaped bypass hose off the LHS (passenger side) of the thermo housing that tends to get overlooked.
LR P/Ns for upper and lower are BYG2770, AYG2464 ; Mackay make these and sell 'em under other brands as well.
Isuzu P/N for bypass is 8-94146297-0 ; NO Mackay equivalent AFAIK
If it the problem is a heater hose, the burst one can be removed and the good heater hose can be short rigged back onto the other outlet.
If you go off the beaten track a proven method for not having to need any is to carry spare hoses
KLR can get you a set .....
Could also be a split reservoir/radiator, or loose lid.
It should be very easy to find. There's not that many places.

thanks all - it looks like a radiator pipe. I have the chemi-weld to temp fix it to drive to Windsor (from Nth Turramurra). What protocols does this involve? *lots of extra water? flushing the system? complicated draining? or just put it in the t/stat plug and run the car?

Hi John thanks! I have done that and the leak seems to be fixed. My next concern is that the coolant seems to be completely gone and also Im worried that the water is low. Im scared of screwing something simple up, so - is it safe to just add tap water to the water reservoir? (the white 'bottle' on the right hand side?) and is there a special coolant I should use and should I also fill the coolant up again or let the engine run a bit first to allow the chemi-weld to get in to all the bits?
thanks in advance.. I am a complete novice!

Short term water is OK, if soft, but replace with coolant to prevent corrosion. you should top up first through the plug on top of the thermostat housing. The chemiweld will not be guaranteed to work unless the coolant (or water) is circulating and hot, and if the coolant is too low it will not circulate.
When you say it seems to be completely gone, I presume you mean in the header tank? Depending how much you have lost, it could be nearly full or nearly empty - fill via the plug on the thermostat housing so you know when it is full.
