They are noisy. I don't have sound deadening.
You need to have a drive in Peter's.

Hi Mick, thanks for the reply. Yes, I guessed they would be noisy, but at least the cabin is big enough to fit sound shielding. But sound shielding won't necessarily get rid of 'harshness and vibration'. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Who is Peter? I presume he has sound shielding in his?

Yes, a shrewd observation Justin, my username really doesn't fit well with many Landies! That is why I sold my 101.... The D4 is good, and the Oka has such a spacious cab that I have been able to put in enough sound shielding that it is pretty near as quiet as the D4.

Peter is a 6x6 owner who has installed a sound deadening material in the cab.

The Isuzu engine has quite a bit of vibration at idle, not so bad when moving through the rev range but still unrefined by any standard these days - they are a truck engine, strong as anything but still a truck engine. Harshness may mean something different to you an me - The 6x6's drive very well, have exceptional road manners both on and off road and I wouldn't call the suspension harsh at all, but as an overall vehicle, it's certainly no D4.

You need to have a ride in one to be sure before you splash your cash. With good sound proofing, I should think they would be very good - I haven't ridden in Pete's yet - I must catch up with him on this.

Thanks Homestar, I can live with vibes at idle if it is smooth on the road. The good road manners sounds appealing. I do need to try one - but it is a bit difficult to find one in downtown Bemboka - at the base of the Snowy Mountains. Grays have an auction coming up, I may be able to find one to check out before then. Failing that, there are a few on ebay, Gumtree etc.

Do you know what part of the world Pete is in? I would love to see what he has done with sound-shielding.

Would you describe them as a high-maintenance vehicle? I do need to keep my eyes on the Oka, it is very tough but there is nearly always some little thing that needs dealing with. My D4 and TD5 just go and go and go......

Pete is in the Bacchus Marsh area, not sure if he gets on here much. Mick may be able to put you in touch.

If you get a well sorted vehicle I would call them very reliable, but it can be a bit of a crap shoot about what you'll get out of the auctions unless you go over it with a fine tooth comb before bidding.
