Did you stamp the correct number to match the ARN?

I was suggesting it be ADI-???? (with the "?" representing the correct chassis number and ADI representing the trailer's manufacturer name that the RMS has in the database.)

Not sure what numbers match ARN. There was a maintanance log in the tub,out of that log I used the 5x numbers under the section - Chassis number. There were no letters ADI.

The reason for the ADI is that there is a possibility that the original chassis was swapped at some stage. By adding the ADI at the front it is unlikely that if the original chassis turns up to be registered then the numbers won't conflict with all the legal issues that may create.

First of all , hi Extreme, thank you for your help and guidance around the streets of inner north Brisbane. Photos are great. I'm very glad to read that you got the rego.

My story is that Extreme and I arrived to pick up our trailers at the same time and discovered we both had the same problem - no VIN or chassis number. So it was off in convoy to the DMT where they advised you can DIY the stamp. I got my number from the log book (and turns out it agrees with the REMLR database.) Though the database says 1966 built, but it is 1977 in the logbook which I would trust absolutely.

Anyway, so we went to Supercheap auto, bought some 6mm number punches and stamped the numbers onto the drawbars. Back to the Dept and they issued my permit (for moving unregistered vehicle), and just as well I had it as I got stopped on the way back to NSW when observed with no number plate by a Dept vehicle that usually look out for dodgy trucks.

So back home with what looks to be a trailer in VGC for a price that would otherwise buy maybe a couple of tyres or wheels.

Does your No5 Trailer still the ID plate riveted to the left front chassis if so it will state "Manufactured by Ordinance Factory Maribyrnong Victoria" and on the left (N/Side) front drain plug plate it will have a number stamped just above the plastic plug "1234"or whatever that is the chassis number,well that is where mine is/was,under several coats of paint, mine also has a modification plate riveted to it,as it has a tailgate cut into it (very crudely)
I gather it was a unit modifactation.

BTW.the plastic plug is a "Tinny" drain plug

The plug is made by the Aust company RONSTAN (plug only P/N RF738, whole fitting P/N RF737), and the trailers coming out of the auctions are a bit hit and miss regarding wether they have 1, 2 or no plugs fitted. They're cheap enough to buy a couple for spares. I suspect that more than a few have dissapeared on inspection days.
