Will my Defender boost alloys fit a No 5 trailer without having to change stud lengths? It looks like it won't be an issue but am hoping for knowledge.

    What say you wise forum?

Im pretty sure they wont fit. I have a no 5 and thought my alloys would fit but the centre hub flange on the trailer is to large for the alloys to fit over. you could machine some of the alloy wheel away I guess but balance and strength might become an issue. as far as im aware only a series steel rim will fit the trailer hub. also a disco series one ? I have one on the trailer temporarily. hope this helps . side note. your original trailer wheels will fit the defender hub though. smaller flange on the defender hubs to allow the alloy wheels means the steel with a larger centre hole will also fit.

Thanks Cactus, that's a big help

Now I'm wondering what it would take to get the trailer hubs swapped to ones that match the puma. This isnt turning out to be as simple as I thought it would.

The correct emerged length for Range Rover Classic studs is about 24MM.
I measured the emerged length from my Range Rover and had my trailer hubs drilled and countersunk to the same length as the car.

You cannot have them too much longer or the wheel nut will not sit on the flange in the wheel before it bottoms. It is a pretty simple measurement. Just measure from the flange to the end of the nut and see if it is more or less than the length of the stud. You also have to consider bottoming in the blind top of the nut.

Measure the emerged length of the studs on your car and use that as a guide. I think it will be the same as AFAIK D1 ,RRC and Defender are the same.
RRC wheels will fit usually as they are hollow and not hub centric. They fit over AL-KO parallel bearings where other wheels eg D2 won't.

You would probably find it easier to get a replacement axle with the correct hubs or Defender hubs.

I would be going down the route of getting electric brakes just to make everything safer.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

For the sake of clarity (based on peoples familiarity with No5's) I originally stated that I was trying to fit boost alloys to my No5. Truth is I'm actually wanting to fit Boosts to my ex-army Cooks trailer which has the same wheels as the No5.
I'm mention this now because the Cooks trailer already has the same axle width as my puma and also has hydraulic disc brakes fitted. Point being, if I can get away with just changing the hubs to ones that will take the boost alloys my problem is solved.
Does anyone know if this is possible? If so, would it be a simple swap and would I get to keep the hydraulic disc brakes that it already has?

Now on the Cooks it would be worth a try. You won't have a problem with the hub, but I'm unfamiliar with the studs being M16 or not.

Yes if the studs are the correct thread all the other things like brakes should be correct too.
