    Best Trailer For Land Rover 4x4 Perentie

    Hi All,

    I am looking at purchasing a trailer to tow behind my RFSV Land Rover. I am thinking of creating a camper style trailer to accompany my future travels and I am not sure what would be the best type of trailer for the job. I was thinking a number 5 but after reading a bit on the forum maybe I would be better off with a single or even a tandem Hallmark trailer. Any advice would be very welcome.

    The 1250kg Haulmark (tandem) is more suited for the 6x6.

    The 750kg Haulmark (single) would be my pick.

    Failing that, a Cooks.

    Final choice would be a Track

    (Mine with a camper on top.)

    Tandem trailers are not ideal off-road. The tandem Haulmark have the same track width as the 6x6 Perenties so are wider than the track on your RFSV.
    • The Cooks Body Works and Haulmark PT1 1.2 have a longer box/tub that you can actually put a low stretcher inside and sleep inside the trailer and even sit up under the canopy.
    • The Track (same manufacturer and independent suspension as the T-Van campers) are much shorter than the Cooks and Haulmark your feet hang outside the canopy and it's like sleeping under a hootchie.
    • The Cooks and Haulmark also have the advantage that when you traverse a steep gully or steep bank after a creek crossing, the trailer tub and canopy goes over the top of the hood/canopy of the GS and FFR Perentie variants. (Not sure about the RFSV with it's higher roof line.)

    All the above single axle trailers are rated at 750Kg payload or 1.2tonne ATM.

    You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Next question. Do you know if there are many more of the 750kg Haulmark (single), Cooks or Track trailers still to come to auction through Grays or should I be looking at Gum Tree and Ebay for one?

    I live in Perth and I haven't seen any of the trailers come to auction through Grays this year in Perth. I have seen a few tandem Haulmarks come up on the East Coast and a heap of number 5's but I am not sure how many of the 750kg Haulmark (single), Cooks or Track trailers have come to auction this year.

    One last question. What is the going rate for these trailers? I know prices vary between auctions but just a ball park figure so I know roughly what I should be prepared to pay for a 750kg Haulmark (single), Cooks or Track trailer.

    Maybe I will have to head East to tow one back if there are any more still to be sold through Grays as the East Coast seems to be the place that all the trailers seem to be sold. However I did think that I might have to do that to pick up an RFSV and to my surprise Grays in Perth found around 20 of them in May and June this year to sell. Fingers crossed they can find a few trailers to sell too!

    I haven't seen many of the 750kg Haulmark trailers come through the auctions. My guess is there are quite a number of those yet to come through.
    There may be a few more Cooks trailers. I suspect one or two Track trailers are yet to surface as well.

    Thanks Mick. Do any of the 3 single axle trailers you recommended have independent suspension and disk hydraulic brakes? I was under the impression that they did but from the photo's it looks like they are leaf sprung with the exception being the 'Track'.

    Yep. Leaf sprung.
    I think the Track trailers were a bit of a failure. The suspension was probably too complicated. The Haulmark is a simpler and probably more robust. I would love to get a tandem. I would expect the Haulmark and Cooks to have hydraulic drum brakes.

    Mick, the Haulmark & Cooks have lever operated drum parking brakes and hydraulic disc over-ride brakes. There is a lock-out solenoid activated by the reversing lights which prevents the disc brakes operating when in reverse gear for obvious reasons.

    Trap for young players when they rewire the plug with a narva or similar plug to civvie standards

    What we've seen is maybe all that there is. The replacement Haulmarks are slightly shorter and with MB wheels (naturally).

    Those wheels must cost a fortune if the price rumoured to have been paid per item is correct.
