    Garwood olding winch

Not sure if this is the right thread, but I have a garwood olding winch on one of my 4x4 trucks. The only numbers on it are SMBD rh. 7672t.
It's hydraulic, fitted on a 1989 model truck and runs about 14-18mm? Cable. I'm wondering how many lbs this winch would be rated at, so far every thing I've pulled out with it has come out, or it's dragged the truck closer to what I'm pulling out! Cheers for any info

    Olding Winches

I know that Oldings made at least three Series of winches the 7, 12 & 20. This indicated 7,000lb, 12,000lbs and 20,000lbs. The 20,000lb winches were fitted to Army Internationals. They were at 42-50 Parramatta Rd Glebe and later 17-21 Sefton Rd Thornleigh. Garwood presumably took over the business later.

There's a company still around called Garwood. They make garbage trucks, located in Smithfield, Sydney by memory. Some of the trucks, used for kerbside rubbish collection are fitted with hydraulic winches at the rear above the loading area. Knowing them they never do things easily or sensibly so if it's the same people they might still make their own.
