Standard Defender AC is nowhere near good enough for Aus anyway, a roof mounted system would be the best, especially in a tourer.

U1700 as MR LR jnr said go the roof mounted option , I have a td5 wagon, and it's air con is not the best in summer, the only issues could be long roof rack/platform fitting and clearance heights. There was a bloke on here who fitted a roof mounted unit to a red early defender or county, sorry can't remember his name, maybe someone else does?
    Anyway welcome to the forum.
It might also be worthwhile looking into a turbo inter cooler system for the Isuzu as there will be lots doing it maybe someone could start an options sticky for turbos on Isuzu going from standard factory to stupid.

The extra $15 non refundable each way every time you go on the M2 and the extra $5 on the M5 certainly excludes consideration of a roof top a/c unit.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

you could hardly consider a rooftop A/C after experiencing my minibus evaporator .

...but how does a rooftop a/c put you into the Commercial toll category ?? , if so I'm going to be snookered with the Iveco Daily 4x4 @ 2.6m high towing my caravan on the M2

but according to the Tolls website I'm still a car
    Cost for travel on M2

    Tolls
There are two toll classes on Hills M2:
Class 2 - (a) 2.8 metres or less in height; and (b) 12.5 metres or less in length.
Class 4 - All other vehicles.

Class 4 on the M5 and used to also be the same on M2 were 2 axles and less than 2.8m or three or more axles and less than 2m.

M2 has only recently removed the 2m reduced height for 3 axles this is very recent when the toll charges were increased and I was unaware of this till this morning.

It still doesn't matter the 2m/3 axle is still in place on the m5 which I use all the time.

On a 3 axle Defender or a Defender with a box trailer the roof is very close to 2m, add a rooftop a/c and your over 2m so get the heavy vehicle toll.

What if he doesn't drive on Toll roads Diana?

If it's meant as a tourer, chances are it will have a roof rack anyway, which could in turn negate the posibility of a roof system, so alluding to Muppet's post, maybe an internal system would be better.

Its not an issue for him, but when someone like me lives at one end of the M5 and much of my collection is at the other end of the M5 the extra $10 per return trip starts to add up.

I've looked at adding a/c to my ex-mod. It looks as if the 2.5na up to and including the 200tdi all use the same a/c compressor mount.

There are some guys on defendersource.com that added universal type under the dash kits.

Some of the Perentie 3 door hardtops have AC fitted in the pass side wall.
