No if they weren't being paid to be there thay'd be racing on the roads. It'ss in their blood.
Just got home, turned on the recording hoping to watch a good GP but instead sickened to see the crash. I guess people will always want to race but you do wonder about your own culpability as my and every other fan's interest in MotoGP is what drives the sport. Must be very distressing for his family friends and fellow riders.

It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

I heard that he was conscious in the medical centre but died 15 minutes later. A terrible loss to the Motorcycling community - this kid had a huge amount of potential and was such a likeable character too.
I had a bike accident a few years ago and the helmet came off - it's really a lottery once that happens. I'm sure they'll look at how this can be prevented in the same way that they've introduced those new visor protectors in F1 after the Felipe Massa incident.
Edwards must be feeling so sick...but I don't think there was anything he could have done.
Sickening to see his helmet come off so easily. Makes you think of the forces at play for that to happen. Very Sad.

SubscriberI couldn't help noting after the Phillip Island GP and the F1 double last weekend how cold, clinical and arrogant the whole F1 experience was when compared with the bikes. The bikes are like a breath of fresh air. Vibrant, exciting and with a genuine respect and sense of fun between the riders, with Marco Simoncelli a major part of the experience. A sad loss.

"....he suffered a very serious trauma to the head, to the neck and the chest. When our medical staff got to him he was unconscious. In the ambulance because there was a cardiac arrest they started CPR (cardiac pulmonary resuscitation). Immediately in the Medical Centre, with the help also of the Doctor of our staff at the Clinica Mobile and local Doctors, he was intubated and it was possible to take off some blood from the thorax. The CPR was continued for 45 minutes because we tried to help him for as long as we thought it was possible. Unfortunately it was not possible to help him and at 16:56 (local time) we had to declare he was dead.”

Shocking accident, very hard to watch. Reminds me how hard these guys push and the micro-seconds it takes for things to go very bad.Coming so close to Dan Wheldon's death, makes for a sad time in motorsport.
