when I opened this I was expecting one of those hydrolic front wheel driven things that both Yammaha and KTM have 'under development'
    plesently surprised.

Make good strong reliable bikes, the Russians, IZH, Cossack, Ural. Not high performers but built like brick dunnies and meant to soldier on in the wilds of Siberia and Central Asia. A mate had a Cossack 350 twin for a commuter, from East Bankstown to Haymarket where he worked 7 day rotating shifts. He bought it new and it plugged away for fifteen years with almost total reliability before his employer moved to Orange and he took early retirement. I always liked Russian machine tools. Likewise built like brick dunnies, plenty of iron in the castings and rigidity guaranteed. Yeronga TAFE had some Stankoexport universal milling machines with motorised overarm which took 35 years of abuse from apprentices and hobbyists and were still accurate on the dials.

Ural have gone soft, cushy new upholstered seating and all.
Time was they had hardy and durable rubber seats.

Fondly remember one I rode for a while, sidecar looked like a conversion from a washing machine. It wasn't fast, but it went anywhere. Sort of like a 3 wheeled Landy, with the same level of weather protection too.

Sidecar wheel drive. Hope that it has a diff, or turning could be a bit problematic, requiring you to give it a fistful and drop the clutch to get one wheel spinning.
About 1970 Rokon made a 2WD bike, the Trailbreaker. Front and rear wheels were driven, and the wheels were hollow and could be used as fuel or water drums. I saw one in Taralga NSW about 15 years ago.

P.s., I thought that Rokons were long gone, but I googled them and it seems that they are still in production, and have been since 1964. Powered by Kohler industrial engines, the new ones look pretty much the same as the old ones.
49 years of producing the same model motorcycle must nearly be a record.

There was an early one of those Rokons on "American Pickers" or "Pawn Stars" (or one of those shows) recently.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
