Leyland Truck and Bus started selling them through their industrial engine division about 1973. I hope they have improved since. The reps learned not to sell one to friends, good customers, or customers you hoped to return to. Much like the Mysore Kirloskar diesel engines from India.

Sorry the old brain and memory is not what it used to be.
Ariel.
I got me bikes mixed up also, Geoff was on the Gilera 4.
As an aside, a fellow club member ( Merrylands ) had a single cylinder 500cc Gilera, it was pretty quick.
Below is a snippet that I just found about Art at Mt Druitt that day.
Strange I could not find a pic of Geoff Duke at that meeting.
My brother used to race at Mt Druitt. Mum never knew until she saw him being presented with a trophy on the Movietone News (or whatever was called in Oz) at the theatre.

Was it Moto Guzzi or Gilera had the 500cc V8? One of the Italian makers had a 1000cc V6 for a defunct endurance race series in the 60's, I think. Maserati made the engine. A very clean pretty thing that looked just like a very small car engine. Made a hell of a sound flat stick on long straights.

Moto Guzzi had the V8 & I think the other Italian your thinking of was Laverda.
I think you Triumph lads would like the new Thruxton were doing at work at the moment, she is being customised for a track/ accessories display. We have fitted a belt drive system, 17" front light weight alloy spoked rim with the biggest possible disc & Brembo calliper, shoe horned a 180 rear on her & more to come.
I will try to post up some pics as she gets closer to completion.
Regards Chris
