Well done!
Can't go too much wrong with any BMW, and the smaller GS series are very easy to ride.
I only just had a 3 week break from riding my bike, and missed it terribly. Enjoy riding!
Well as I have not been on a road bike for quite some time, I decided I would work my way slowly back into riding again, so over Xmas I purchased a 2000 BMW F650GS (single cylinder model) it's in reasonable condition, with just a few cosmetic issues, other than that, it's pretty good.
Seat will need attention, it's fairly soft, from age I'd say, it will need new foam that's a bit firmer, I might have it redeshaped also to make it a tad higher and a little more narrow.
The footpeg brackets have some surface rust, so they are off to the powdercoater, new set of handlebars and get rid of the bar risers, as they make the riding position a little odd, like I'm in a too too upright position, fixed the brake squeal it had in the rear brakes, it has ABS, but it doesn't work, I looked at the sensor, doesn't look like it is in good nick, so might look into that also.
I've been out for 4 rides now, 6 if you include the ride home from Wagga(where the bike was) to Corryong(where we camped over Xmas) and Corryong to home(Helensburgh) it's not too bad to ride overall, being a big single it vibrates a bit, but nothing you can't manage, I will upgrade it in the near future, but it will do for now.
Finally, I have awoken muscles I didn't know I had, and muscles I knew I had, that have been dorment for a very very long time, lets just say I ache a lot

Cheers Baz.

Nice choice... but I might be biased
Well after a few rides, I really didn't like the seating position, I just couldn't get comfortable as I was always trying to keep myself from sliding forward, so off to Adventure Moto in Dural to get a new F650GS DAKAR seat kit, what a difference it has made, it's taken out that hollow and is now a tad higher, firmer and a little wider, no more sliding forward, I also made a rack for my Gearsack Bag.
So from this
To this

The Dakar/Sert?o spec has a 21" front wheel. Not sure how it compares as I've never ridden the standard F650. Welcome to take mine for a spray if ever in Melbourne.
Agree on the seat, hip rotates forward, body crushes balls dance
Yes my hips ached on and after the ride, mainly because the shape of the seat forces your legs apart, giving you not much support for that sudden bump and the subsequent nut cracker
The new seat allows me to relax now, I'm not supporting myself with my legs which means no aching hips and knees and at 60yrs old, that's good

Off for a weekend of camping on the bikes tomorrow, first time motorcycle camping for Nessie, me I'm a seasoned motorcycle camper, so I know what I'm in for, Ness doesn't, so should be interesting, cutting across to Picton, then Thirlmere, Mossvale, or might just go straight down to Moss Vale, then Suttons Forset, Tallong, Marulan, Swallow Tail Pass, Taralga, then via Golspie to Binda, a mixture of tar and dirt, camping in Binda as a base for looking around.
Should be fun fun fun.
Cheers Baz.
