My Track Day @ Phillip Island Motogp track

Well... I needed to take a break from the Rangie after all the mess around.

    So I did this

The track day... wow?... no, awesome.. nope.. I can't even describe it.
I am still amazed & stunned I think

I have always taken it easy in the wet - always. I kinda - almost prided myself on my wet riding, taking it easy & being smooth on the throttle.

Today I took that to a new level. (In my mind anyway lol) We only had a few sessions of dryish track (Some little streams? lol run off's of water crossing the track) I rode every session, pouring rain or not.
But I kept the smooth throttle & lent off the bike heaps keeping the bike up as much as I could & through the corners just holding the throttle on & a very gentle feed on exit. I kinda knew I was doing alright - was told at the end of the day by some dude I had spoken to a few times over the day that a few reckoned I was really hooking it mainly one session where it poured down, I still went out tho

So that was the wet in very, very short terms, I didn't think I could ride that hard in the wet!! talk about always learning.

As for dry, that's when I really started learning the track & hooking up corners. I actually caught on pretty fast I think, kept passing quite a few 1000cc & 600cc bikes from Honda corner to Lukey heights, even nabbed a few around the outside on MG. (tight hair pin)

I think max speed for me was close to 280kph - I did see 265kph ~ 275kph at the red & white Melbourne walk over & sign - but you have to watch the track so much you just don't know what you actually hit. I think turn one max speed for me was about 170odd - I was loving that corner, I would set up and just drop a gear & roll on in with the engine breaking & then crack the throttle again

I know for sure - coming out of the last turn I was getting 180kph just before the rise that was on the last session as I removed the tape from my speedo for that session.
    I am so going again!!

    pics!!

Great stuff, I've done a few, it's awesome each time!
Got some heaps better photo's than this one, but not on the puter.

Last time I was there, honda racing was unloading for some testing on the following day, and I got pics with mick doohan and valentino rossi

If you want to have some extra fun, park the Busa and hire a 600 for the day.
Light and well set up, rev the little bugger to the sky and pass all the 'big' bikes.

If you haven't experienced 'someone elses bike' before, it makes you feel a bit special rolling up with just your riding gear and throwing your leg over a bike someone else has to clean and maintain.

I actually went test riding a few weeks ago, the new 1098, gsxr750 & the new honda 1000. But on the track on monday I was passing the 600's & 1000's with ease

However I am thinking of a second bike now a nice 600 or something.
Wouldn't mind a hire bike but the out right cost is farly large, could get a bike for that amount I think.. deposit is 2k!

Looking good mate. The last race meet I had was in the wet at Broadford, was good fun, except for the visor fogging up so I couldn't see!

I've only ridden PI twice, here are a couple of pics of my last visit.

You can gain a lot of time with turn 1. I don't button off until the double white line near pit exit, just sit up, click down one and peel in. The only time I used brakes was Honda and MG. Then again I'm only pulling about 220.

Good stuff RaZzOR, i'm so jealous, my only regret when a gave up road racing, was that i never got too race at Phillip Island

I did however race at Bathurst on a bike i built myself

Some guys may remember Fairburn Park, at 780 metres around it was a bit tight on the GSX/R it's a Hill Climb curcuit now.

I will someday do a ride day down at Phillip Island. I have heard from some friends that the superbike school is fantastic and they have all gotten alot out of it - this is from new riders to experienced racers.

They are well worth the money, i have done a number of these training days, from Enduro & Motocross schools to road race training days and have always come out with something to make me go faster and with less effort, it's all about the corners and getting in and out of them as quickly and as smoothly as possible, get a dirt bike and do some trail riding, learning to get comfotable with the back end sliding around is a benefit too road and track riding.

But best of all, it's $hitloads of fun
