Will not start while cold without a whiff of start ya bastard. Once running it will continue to run and will only run into trouble again when left off for about 2 hours. Fuel lines are pumping decently at the carby so perhaps it's a problem with the carby?

When I look down it's throat there are two noticeable problems:
1: the valve on the engine side (it has two openings at the base) does not open via linkages nor when I push it
2: no fuel spraying in until the car starts

Any ideas of where to start are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Brendon

It's no good expecting a vacuum operated secondary barrel to open without the engine running at full bore. So ignore that.

How about some choke? Usually does it for a carby. Then check the accelerator pump is connected and working. If its failed just get a carby kit and install as per its instructions in the packet.

Okay I heard it may be vacuum operated but I still expected it may have opened with some force.

Choke doesn't help it. Even with choke engaged there is no fuel visibly entering the manifold. Ordered a carby kit so will tell if it helped tomorrow when it arrives.

Secondary will only open when the primary is wide open. Then if the butterfly isn't rusted shut it should move with light pressure against the vacuum actuator.

Have you been running ethanol mixed fuel? On a rarely used old Corolla it would load up large amounts of water and rust up everything. Just a thought.

Only ordinary unleaded. Though pretty much any fuel that isn't filtered has excessive water etc

    Okay, interesting developments..
Got the carby kit installed, found dead cockroach on top of the "non functioning" second barrels valve. Now all back together but it revs to high and stalls when stationary and drive is selected. Will the stalling be due to high revs +torque converter grabbing? Can't seem to lower revs either, I know where the idle mixture is but then there are two more screws which I'm not sure about, one on bottom of linkages and one in the middle. Ideas?
