Charging issues 2.4D Hilux
Pick up a free '80's hilux 2wd dual cab 2.4 diesel today, paddock car for the 13yo niece to learn to drive in. 496K on the clock and runs surprisingly well.......for a Toyota
Battery was RS, so fitted a spare N70ZZ I had laying around. Checked the charging voltage (at battery) at idle...13.2v mmm. Flicked the lights on and this jumped up to 14.5v....with a few revs...14.8v. flick the lights off and back to 13.2v
Battery may not be 100% but it had a good charge with a switch mode charger set to 2amp for 4 days. 12.8v static charge.
Guy I got it off said it used to eat batteries, flatten them if left unused for a week or so....but i'm guessing the ignition switch was never actually turned full off, as its quite hard to get from acc to off.
Thinking I may have a wiring issue. Any ideas?
Cheers
Rick
