    Cable Locator

We ripped a delivery pipe and 240v supply to our bore about 120 meters down
the valley about 15 years ago The line is now covered with regrowth and we are worried about roots damaging the lines witch are down about 600mm .Am looking to buy a Fluke 2042 cable locator $670 witch is good for about 2.5 m deep.Would a gold detector work to 600mm ? any thoughts welcome

Have you tried looking for a contractor locally to locate the cable? I got a bloke in a few years ago to find my septic pipes, he had one of those cable locator units and did it as a sideline to his courier business.

I have read mixed reviews on the fluke locator, very hit and miss. I have a proper cable locator made by aegis (sp), cost me nearly $3k, I use it a fair bit and is quite accurate, best to get the real deal, or hire one, try tech rentals.

AS the line is to over grown to walk I will have to clear with the skidsteer as we go so makes using a contractor a bit impracticable . Vern I was interested in the comments regarding the Fluke as is usually fairly good gear .As 1500mm either side of the line would be near enough do you think the Fluke would handle that? Still waiting on a response from the hire placeRing you back means **** off

1500mm, it should handle that. Mine pin points it, can even measure the depth of the cable. I remember before I bought mine I looked around and I could get a real located from either the states or UK, can't remember for $600, these were refurbed ones and would be around $4k + new. They were only 1-2 years old. Good money can be made doing locations
