    That is one terrifyingly bad idea! The torque reaction of the hubs causes the suspension to jack up under load. With any sort of roughness in the road everytime the wheel gets torque it tries to hammer your bum. I've been in a VW Country Buggy with the same setup and a warm 1835 motor and it was very unpleasant. The body was being hammered to bits. I was half way through converting it to full CV joint drive from a later Kombi when the project was shelved.

    which is why they were so good offroad, apply power and the wheels are forced harder into the ground, = greater traction, go anywhere a 4 x4 could
