My daughter was given a 10 speed bike but it has a problem. Before I start untangling the chain from around a myriad of gears I will explain the problem. The gears and gear changer work fine but the sprockets on the rear wheel do not drive the wheel, they just spin. What has let go and how much of trhe rear sprocket setup will I have to dismantle? Jim

You need to flush the congealed grease out of the ratchet pawls that are in the freewheel. Squirting into the side seal of the cluster with penetrating oil should do it. Lay the wheel on a level surface with the cluster upwards.
Failing that get a bike shop to unscrew the cluster (needs a special tool) and sell you a new one. 5 speed clusters aren't very dear.
