Brian, did you get any info on these engines and the differences?
Does anyone know about the reputed internal differences between the Chrysler Hemi 6 as used in the cars and the so-called "Black Engine" 245 used in the Dodge Trucks of the same era?
I had a lot to do with the cars but have never seen inside a black engine. A mate has acquired a Dodge with one and seeks information.
He has been told that there are a number of internal differences such as a forged steel crank, valve rotators, stronger con-rods, forged pistons. Is this correct and are there any other differences?

IIRC, the 265 heavy duty truck engines were low compression, and this may also apply to the 245. Fed by a single barrel Stromberg. Chances are the truck version would have had the forged crankshaft.

Another vastly under-rated Australian engine.
Wonder how it would go in a Classic...
(Yeah I know, totally munch every bit of the drivetrain.)
I was lead to believe that it was a similar story to the 253/308 deal with the holden v8s, lots of parts interchange if you swap them as complete entities but not everything..

A few years ago I purchased a series 3 lwb fitted with a 265 hemi for $500 . It had no gearbox in it at the time but the rear was full to the windows of gearbox housings and parts .A bit of a clue. I fitted a series 2 gearbox to move it and drove it around the paddock a bit ,probably should have renamed it 007. The gearbox was not very happy and it now sits under a tree corroding away in the tropical heat . May be some sort of auto and transfer case might get it back to 007 status

AHH my bread and butter back in the day.
the HD or black motors were a good donk. But its worth nothing.
Neither the 265 or 245 heads can be shaved much. which is why a 245 head was re valved and ported for a 265 if you wanted it to move a bit better.
Also if you wanted a 265 to move you pinched a 265 black crank. a lot stronger than the stock item.
so what will your mate want to do with this donk? if its a runner leave it alone, or slap on some headers and a 2 brl manifold and carby.
if he is going to do it up grab some 245 car pistons.
if the tranz is ever out knock about 5kg off the outside of the flywheel. that will make more of s difference than every thing else
