    british electronics..?... it doesnt say lucas anywhere on the box or cabling does it or did any of it come in a britpart wrapper?

    Actually, that would make sense of why the gunnery flags are kept down near the driver in british AFV's.... I can just hear the lilting tones of the a proper british voice from the crew commander.

    Actually, I received a package from the UK last week and the RF coax and 7 pin Initiate -> TUAAM (antenna tuner) cable came in genuine Land Rover sealed packages, so they could be from the Prince of Darkness!

    On the ATU subject, and given that there are additional boxes required to operate the ATU, there would be no reason why I couldn't use an American AS-1729 and manually set the tuner would there?

    Probably do that on the Tilley! (M548)

    AS I undertood the TUAAM they only needed to be hooked up to the vehicle mount for the manportable or the dedicated vehicle mount radios.

    Short of the posability of the RF imedence of the Units being different It should work but you'd have to hope the 1729 was still workable, manually tune it and maybe hack up a patch cable for the RF.

    If you've got a 548 I want to have a drive and I'll see if I've till got my PAM set for it..



    Oh if you want a tilly to behave nicely strap 700kg to the rear tailgate. a pallet of spare track is about ideal and keep the fuel tank full.

    I still have bad memories of a night convoy move that involved some emergancy breaking and track fouling that left me with a gravel rash on the winch frame and towing bollards.

    I was not impressed when the vehicle behind me descibed it as "we thought you were going to roll it over All we could see was belly plate and tracks"


    Mind you I've also managed to launch a crew commander out of the cupola and onto the cam net on the cargo canopy in one that had the trans selector link misadjusted. I thought I was in 1, It wa in 1-2 and a I backed off ready for the nose to come down after exiting a creek edge it hung trying to shift, started to roll back so I paniced and booted it it downshifted and hooked up launching forwards past the point of balance and dropping down the crew commander not expectign it and being a tall bloke who was sittign on the ring dissapeared. I didnt know about it till I got to the prop point 200m up from the crossing to wait for the next vehicle.

    Yes we have a tilley, (and I've made a handshake agreement to buy it off the current owner next year) and if you come down when it's out for a day of course you can have a drive.

    It was British Army used ex-service by a mining company and they've cut off the sides so currently they are being replaced. Currently it's not running on the rear tank, but on an additional tank sitting on the engine covers. Plan is to re-activate the original tank.

    We're also going around replacing worn out track pad bushes so it would be great if we had a pallet of new track. Found two pallets of new track (70 links) in a recyclers yard in Wangaratta ex-DMO but the recycler is unable to sell it because of the disposal contract. Apparently it's dangerous for us to have new track for a vehicle we already have with worn track. Go figure.

    Am currently planning installing a Clansman harness to it and fitting my PRC-351 and PRC-320, but would prefer the Yank antennas over the thin Brit ones.

    Will take your advice on loading up the rear.

    dont bother with the rear tank its a snot trap good to have if your after a perfect specimin but not so much if you plan on storing it for a whilte.

    theres 4 dirfferent track types for the m113 family that I know of(discounting cleat only or grouser pad variations) and none of them are compatible and require different sprocket wheels.

    pay lots of attention to the fan drive mechanism and belts

    I might know someone whose got an ANPRC 524 set that should be complete enough to fit up to the tilly. I'll wing them an email for you. I also think that the war museum up here has 2 pallets of carrier track but no carrier... I'll go have an eyeball next time Im in darwin.
