    Turbocharging a 1HZ

Is there a way to turbocharge a 1HZ without it ending in tears?

I'm not looking for a road burning weapon here. 130kW and 350Nm would be about nice.

I have a 300Tdi VNT automatic but I'd be aiming to build a turbo 1HZ that could at least out perform that.

Using toyota turbo pistons Graeme at Gturbo in WA is getting some serious torque and power out of them. I'll have to add a link to them. You will have to email him or ring, here is a lonk to the info,

Not sure I want to go the point of rebuilding with new pistons etc. Once that point is reached, getting close to cost of dropping in a HDFT.

Thanks JC might head over and have a chat to them.

From what i understand, and 100% the reason we stick to low boost and egt's with these when we turbo them, is due to the N/A pistons. The kits we sell are from Denco and are probably the best on the market for a direct bolt on with no engine mods and have a good long life. Have done a HZJ79 recently with 400k on it. Don't be greedy and you'll see some decent kms out of them. If you want to chat about it gimme a pm or call 0408995635.

Na pistons will die fast, keep the boost low keep the EGTs lower,

if you try to push tdi levels of boost and egt you are going to kill it in very fast order.

IME working with others anything over 5psi of boost wants intercooling, if you;re going to set it up so it hangs off of the turbo and then fuel it to match you have to retard the injection timing a little to lower the peak cylinder pressure however this will lead to lacksidasical low end pickup.

Does the concern about turbo on NA pistons extend to turbo charging the NA 4BD1? Or was it blessed with the same pistons as the factory turbo engine? I have a 1H and the 4bd1 (and a 4bd1t) so interested in this thread.
