I have a soft spot for the MK1 Cortina's. I had a 2 door years ago, mate had a 4 door and his father had 4 door GT with Bob Holden built, ex Escort Lotus twin cam engine for many years....

There was a MK2 Cortina GT in town years ago with a legally engineered Rover V8 in it.

My uncle has a mk1 with a 400+ cubic inch mechanical injected Windsor in it.
It does flex a little, but that's due to the fact that it lifts both front wheels off the ground on take off

Conversely my brothers mate built a 1980 323 BMW with a 350 and T400, fully decked out in JPS black scheme and gold BBS rims, put a few Brock dunny doors to shame back in 1985.
    One mate had a Mk1 Escort with a 302 windsor and C4.

It'd be the 2002 for me...and find yourself a friendly fibreglass to knock you up a period style aero kit and it would be scary beast

And I agree, a 2002 was something I always wanted to own and never did, I had a full set of the Fiat 124 Sports instead . But oh, to have a 3.0 CSI done up to look like 3.0 CSL ...aaah Lotto

I'm currently running an E30 325i which I restored and then added turbo and it is a "hoot". Beautiful touring car and if one wshes to give it a bit of wellie it goes around corners with the best of them. Still light you see.

Given druthers on your offering I'd go down the Cortina route more so if you could get GT furniture and power plant and running gear, better still a GT GT Cortinas will only go up...............Ditto E30 M3s but people want ridiculous money for trash heaps, or should I say trashed heaps.

    Cheers

Well, my original criterion turned apex over base somewhere along the line. Screening Carsales for a bargain I found this - a mint 328i garaged since new with full service history, low kms, manual, black leather interior and 100% compression on all cylinders... all for a whopping $6K! Best part is it's super intuitive car for a DIYer like me.

If you want to find me, come g'day while i'm burning up Chittering Rd.
