Thread: Stage 1 V8 109'' chassis into Series 2a

If you are transferring the running gear as well - no major problems. If just the chassis, and keeping everything else, there are significant problems. Engine, gearbox mounts, steering gear, position of front crossmember, I think, depending on model, fuel tank brackets, and probably a few other items. But the main body dimensions and attachment points are identical. You need to check your legal situation as well - in Australia it would be seen as putting a 2a body on a Series 3 chassis, and there would be significant problems as a result (design rules for flush hinges, padded dash etc)

Thought about this some time ago. If you want to put a 2a body on a v8 109" chassis you'd have to use the 109's bonnet and radiator support so the longer radiator doesn't fowl on the steering box. Modify the 2a fire wall to use the 109's gear box tunnel and floors. pretty much everything else will line up with a couple of simple brackets. Classic steel 2a interior and alloy v8...nice. Or simply put a 2a firewall on the 109, change door hinges, 2a badges...no one will no.

Should have given a bit of background in the first post sorry - the vehicle is only used on a farm so legal requirements aren't relevant, the existing 2a chassis has had accident damage to the front at some stage bending the 2 main rails out of alignment from the front hangers back to roughly the front of the gearbox crossmember (the remainder of the chassis is in ok condition) and rusting out where the main crease has occurred. This seems like a big job to fix to myself (would be sent to a professional as i'm clueless with regards to welding).

A cheap 109 V8 chassis has come to my attention and was wondering if instead of paying to get the existing fixed if it may be better to fudge the V8, good point about the steering relay, maybe cut the steering relay crossmember out of the existing 2a and switch into the V8? Aside from a few mounting brackets is the steering relay the main issue?

for a farm hack the small 2a radiator would probably do the job so you don't have to worry about the steering relay.
