The chev in that P38 is a Tune Port Injected motor - much simpler electrics than an LS series chev! My view without being an electronics guru would be this:
Microtec or similar ECU on the engine, set up to chat with the transmission ECU (that's pretty simple to do), and BeCM. The last bit would be where the dramas are!
Nonetheless it's been done!

If there was someone in Aus that did the conversion then I would be certainly thinking this option very seriously. The issue I can see is that nobody has done it here in a P38 therefore I wouldnt want to go through the hassle of being the guinea pig.
Stubee did a fair bit of research into this topic from memory as he was looking seriously at putting in an LS3 - so he might be one to ask if he's still around - haven't heard from him for a while.... (would of said that about Aussie last week though:D)

Marks Adaptors make some stuff that could be helpful with this conversion.
The adapters they have were not designed for the LS3 they were made for earlier Chev 350s but should be usable with the LS3 as i don't think there is much if any difference in mounting points with Chev V8s of different age, the LS1 through 7 will all bolt into the same boxes etc.
The BeCM mod they make for Holden V8s would be reprogrammable, just needs the correct LR codes.

No, none of it is of any use, the adaptors available will neither mount the ZF in the P38, nor the 4L60e holden trans (or4L80e for the matter) to the Tx case of the P38, the Mod who speak of in regards to the holden BCM for an LS motor in the Delphi ECU is merely a drop down windows funtion that turns VATS off allowing the motor to go without BCMQuote:
