    Do-er-upper on e-bay

This might be worth an inspection for anyone looking for a project.
Its obviously not a Vogue but 4 bypass valves for the EAS and a second hand headlamp will get you mobile

You could buy it for less than 5k, spend the 2800k on the Hard Range lift/gen III kit, put some money into making the engine what it should be and give it a vacuum = very tough Rangie (minus dirty seats and carpets)!!

I rekon budget 15k to have a total package that'd keep on keeping on and keep the department of transport happy too!

Could be the buy of the year... Reasonably tidy for what it is!

Tempting at that price, but full of gremlins I'd bet. EAS would be a pretty cheap and easy fix as Keithy says... as long as the bags are ok, install a bypass kit before driving it home and pump it up... 15mins work and Batemans Bay is only about 1.5hrs from my place. Once home, do the valve block o-rings and compressor seal, plug in the EAS Unlock cable and clear any faults.

Stereo - who cares? It will be replaced by a decent aftermarket unit anyway. Interesting to note that this Dec 94 4.0 SE has steering wheel controls for the stereo, and headlamp wash/wipe... my 1999 4.0 does not.

HVAC LCD not displaying... could be bulbs, LCD matrix or maybe replace the HVAC panel, not difficult or too expensive.

Everything else, who knows what they didn't put in the ad? You pays yer money and takes yer chances...

Bonnet and front passenger door looks ok... seems to be same colour as mine and I need new ones after getting a bit too intimate with nature

Not going to drive it home though - it obviously has no rego.

Got me thinking though... I was sorta planning for the Hard Rangie Mk2 to be a black 2002 HSE with dark tint and full black leather interior

    Cheers, Paul.

Mmm, its tempting, i was considering one on here that needed a new engine but that wasn't to be, i wouldn't mind a project just not now.

Interesting i had a chat with a bloke i know in the UK, he reckons they are using the CHEV/Holden LS3 6.2l V8 crate engine as a replacement for the Rover V8.

    LS3 brand new 480BHP about $7k

    Wiring harness $900

Deluxe Accessory Drive Kit $1200 which includes heaps (very good value)

    • Bracket - Air Conditioning
    • Compressor - Air Conditioning
    • Tensioner - Air Conditioning Belt
    • Belt - Air Conditioning Compressor
    • Bracket - Power Steering Pump
    • Pump - Power Steering
    • Pulley - Power Steering Pump
    • Reservoir - Power Steering Fluid
    • Hose - Power Steering Fluid Reservoir with clamps
    • Bracket - Alternator
    • Alternator
    • Pulley - Belt Idler
    • Tensioner - Drive Belt
    • Belt - Water Pump / Alternator / Power Steering

Would be about $10-11k with an Eng Cert, for brand new engine with all that, not a bad deal i think.

A project i would love to do, that engine, the Hard Rangie/Arnott lift, rebuild EAS, weld up some bar work (minimal look) front air locker, rear auto locker and decent wheels/tyres.

I have a link to the shop for that stuff, you can get similar prices in Australia too, the LS3 is cheaper here.

Why at nearly 40 does the idea of 480BHP still appeal to me?
and even more so the supercharged version

Yeah that did cross my mind, apparently you can get the standard LR box strengthened or for added cost fit the 6spd man or auto box that goes with the LS3, if fitting that box i would guess the GMC version used in their 4X4s would be the choice to retain use of 4wd etc, the LS series of engines has been used in a large range of vehicles so there are plenty of options.

The interior 4WD activation might be a bit of a PITA if using the Chev box, that would need some thought put into it lol.

I was told that people are fitting the LS3 engine to P38s in the UK by a guy from the engine shop i linked to, i haven't heard first hand of anyone that has, but apparently it's a good fit.

Great thinking!! I've got friends with LS2 engines in their Torana's, it can't be that hard to adapt to a P38! And how would it be with a nice 6spd auto as well! Keep the transfer and viscous coupling if possible and you've got a nice package!

The real headache it would seem with doing this conversion is electrics, you need to get control between the 2 systems, P38 and Chev engine, the easiest way i think is to have a programmable unit that will bridge the gap and translate the signals that need to be shared.

Here's links to some older conversions done by overfinch, LS1s i think.
