    lpg on a P38 - any issues?

I'm thinking of buying a P38 and am doing some research. One item of interest to me is an lpg conversion. I did this on my vs v6 commodore to find out later that they have a nasty habit of back firing and blowing the air cleaner box apart.

Has anyone experienced any down side to having their rr running on lpg?

    Cheers,

    David.

Both Junosi and I have fitted the Sequential Injection Marrelli Gas Kits from the UK on our P38's. Besides some initial teething problems with Calibration and Installation they are working really well.

The Sequential Injection Kits inject the Gas directly into the Engine like a Normal Petrol Fuel Injector, so there are no issues like the older style "BlowBacks" ete... They also are much more efficient than the older "Mixer" Style.

The Kit was purchased from UK for around: $900
88L Capacity Tank (Donut/Toroidal) for Spare Wheel: $700
    Installation by Licenced Installer: $1500

    Total: $3100
Minus Government Rebate (More in WA ete) $1500

    Total: $1600

    Thanks guys,
yeh I did search both LPG and Gas and found lot's of posts about convertion and rebates and claiming twice on the same car etc... not much on how well or otherwise it works.

    Sequential injection sounds the goods.

    Cheers,

    David.

The engine in a P38 will handle gas fine. The electrics are another matter. To avoid back firing with a ring mixer type system you have to use different plugs and leads. Coil failure is not uncommon, especially on the Bosch injection system. Therefore the gas injection system is preferred because it can't backfire mightily like the cheaper system. It does cost a lot though to get gas injection fitted through regular fitters, and some kits have reliability problems. It all depends on how knowledgeable your chosen gas fitter is. I would suggest asking about who has done P38 conversions in your area and talk to an owner who has used that fitter. I personally use kits sourced from a local wholesaler because they have engineering back-up in case anything goes wrong.
